On this date on February 25, 2006 ,the New York Times reported that renown Ethiopian poet and author Tsegaye Gabre-Medhin had passed away in Manhattan.

Boon on August 17, 1936, Gabre-Medhin finished his post graduate studies at Blackstone School of Law in Chicago in 1959 before returning to Ethiopia.
The NYT’ reported that Gabre-Medhin, who made New York his home since 1998 for medical treatment for kidney disease, was considered Ethiopia’s greatest playwright.
