Celebrating 112 years of the Ethiopian-German Friendship. On this date on March 7, 1905, Ethiopia and Germany entered a Treaty of Friendship.
In May 1989, desperately seeking for military aid, Ethiopian President Mengistu Haile Mariam departed for the Soviet East Germany. As his plane departed from Ethiopia, a mutinous group of high-ranking Ethiopian military officers used the opportunity to stage a coup against the Ethiopian leader. The coup would quickly collapse, and many of the co-conspirators would be executed.
